Lessons from Dogs: Finding Healing Through Compassion and Connection

Writer's picture: Sara ScottSara Scott

In the spirit of reflection this November, I’m honored to share my personal story in an article I wrote for Bay Woof titled, “The Face in The Mirror: My Healing Journey with Dogs.” Working with dogs—especially those labeled as anxious or reactive—has been more than a profession; it’s been a mirror into my own struggles and healing. Through their resilience, vulnerability, and the raw honesty of their emotions, these dogs have taught me lessons that go far beyond training.

In the article, I dive into how my own experiences with anxiety, depression, and autism have shaped my approach to dog training. These dogs have helped me find a path to self-understanding and compassion, teaching me to honor both their challenges and my own.
